The  ASG team at St. Johns Centre in Leeds have successfully completed the invaluable Dementia Awareness Training with the Alzheimer’s Society.

The training was completed by both security and cleaning teams throughout the month of July. The purpose of the training is to give customers, challenged by the impact of dementia, who are visiting the centre a pleasant, accessible and enjoyable shopping experience by developing an awareness of the signs and symptoms of dementia within the ASG teams. The training also gives participants the tools to approach and respond to challenging situations and will empower them to support and engage with visitors who are living with the effects of dementia.

Steve Burns, ASG Soft Service Manager, commented, “The training was extremely informative and certainly gave us all more confidence to deal with centre visitors who are distressed or confused because of dementia.”

Steve continued, “We want everyone who visits the centre to feel safe and we can achieve this by providing a thoughtful and helpful service. This makes a big difference to someone who is feeling vulnerable. I’d like to say a big thank you to the Alzheimer’s Society for their time and insight.”
